The Mentorship/Supervision Program will allow all South Zone Soccer Referees to receive positive feedback and coaching from experienced senior referees. The key feature of this program is to encourage, educate and coach young referees to enhance their ability to officiate the game of soccer.
The Mentorship/Supervision Program has two primary goals. The first is retention. We're working to provide support and encouragement to keep our referees-particularly our newer referees-in the league. The second goal is growth. We want to help identify those officials capable of upgrading in the referee ranks and provide help doing so.
The Mentor/Supervisor is viewed as a teacher or adviser who leads through guidance and example. they will oversee and evaluate each of the officials twice during the year in an actual game conditions and probably supervise an additional game as a follow-up if problems are encountered in referee performance. The Mentor/Supervisor will point out the strengths and weaknesses of the official and give pointers/hints on how to improve his or her effectiveness on the pitch.
The Mentor/Supervisor will complete a standard supervisor's report and discuss the game evaluation with the referee. A plan for growth and development would be developed. A copy of the report will be given to the referee and to the South Zone Referee Co-ordinator. Additional follow up assessments may be required to support the growth of the referee skills.
Our Objectives:
- To assist referees to attain their potential through the feedback and education process.
- To establish league standards for all Referees.
- To develop an assessment program that will allow all referees to be evaluated at least twice per season.
- To assist the Referee Co-ordinators in determining the appropriate qualifications for game assignment purposes.
- To create a pool of experienced Referee Assessors.
- To develop a process that will identify potential referees in a priority system.
